Yoga & Ocean Adventure Retreat

June 20-27, 2020

Bangka Island, Northern Sulawesi - Indonesia

Join Alyssa Kratz and Angela Forcier for 8 days/7 nights of yoga and ocean adventures in one of the most bio-diverse underwater regions on the planet. You will indulge in twice daily yoga, 3 catered meals a day, and world class scuba diving and snorkeling. Our retreat locale is Coral Eye Dive Resort on Bangka Island. (Click here to explore Coral Eye’s website.) The resort sits on a large stretch of private white sand beach with beach bungalows just steps away from the sea. Our yoga deck overlooks it all! Scuba diving/snorkeling will be offered on a daily basis from Coral Eye’s dive boats or right from the convenience of our resort’s private beach. Alyssa hosted a retreat here in 2016, which Angela attended, and both of us have been longing to get back ever since! We hope you’ll join us for this adventure of a lifetime.

Angela Forcier

Angela has taught over 1000 hours of yoga since 2012, and yoga has been integral to her personal healing and growth for nearly 20 years. She completed her YTT in classical hatha and ashtanga yoga in the lineage of Baba Hari Dass in order to deepen her own practice and refine her skills to maintain her wellbeing through her intensely stressful work with refugees. She began teaching yoga with the desire to make the healing tools and insight that yoga offers accessible to anyone who wanted to try it. From the beginning her teaching has been informed by the needs of people who could never attend a typical studio class due not only to finances, but language, social, cultural, and mental health barriers.

Since moving to Uganda in 2014, Angela has been working with humanitarian, aid, and other NGO workers in Uganda seeking to deepen their self-care in the midst of demanding jobs that are prone to burn out and secondary trauma (much like she herself experienced). She also works in partnership with programs working with vulnerable populations offering support to heal from traumatic experiences and to create better futures for themselves. She has also begun offering mentorship training to refugees living in camps/settlements to lead safe and healing yoga classes themselves, and trauma informed yoga trainings to teachers in Uganda who also work with communities that have experienced trauma.

Angela teaches her own style of mindful vinyasa that incorporates breath, mindfulness, and intuitive sequences to invite students to tune into their own internal awareness, encouraging movement and postures that feel right for their own bodies. She also teaches Restorative Yoga, Pre- and Post-natal Yoga, kids yoga, Partner Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. Her morning meditation practice has been the grounding point for her self-care and healing, and she loves to guide others into the bliss of a quiet moment free from the inundation of external stimulation, and the deeply healing ability to be present with oneself.

In addition to yoga, she also practices Thai Yoga massage, sells home-brewed healing herb kombucha, and is a Doula working to make birth safer and more empowering in Uganda. When she’s not doing this fulfilling work, she loves to discover new places, to immerse herself in forests, mountains, or oceans, to tend her garden, and on occasion do something that scares the shit out of her!

Retreat F.A.Q. & Need to Know Info

Where do I fly into?

Our final airport destination is Manado (Sam Ratulangi International Airport/MDC). However, it may be cheaper for you to buy your ticket into Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta International Airport/CGK), and then purchase another separate ticket from Jakarata to Manado on a smaller Indonesian airline. Breaking up the flight into these two sections can help mitigate flight costs, especially if you are flying from the US. Please note that flights are not included in your retreat ticket price. However, the transfer from Manado/MDC airport to our retreat home at Coral Eye is included in the retreat ticket.

How do I get to the resort?

Your transfer to and from Manado/MDC airport to Coral Eye is included in your retreat ticket price. You will be picked up at the airport and transferred by car to Northern Sulawesi. From there you will board a boat for a 30-45 minute ride over to Bangka Island with Coral Eye’s picturesque jetty there to welcome you! Transportation to and from Coral Eye is available between 7am-4pm. Please plan your flights accordingly.

Snorkeling?

Bangka Island, North Sulawesi is situated in the heart of the Coral Triangle and is renowned for its marine biodiversity. The snorkeling right off of the Coral Eye jetty, lovingly called the ‘House Reef’ will blow your mind! Last time, most retreat guests hopped in for a quick (or extended!) swim on this reef on a daily basis. There is no shortage of amazing sights to behold underwater, within steps of your bungalow door. The diversity of marine life, the coral, the colors, are unparalleled. Snorkel trips by boat are also available to organize from $5-33 USD per person on a daily basis. Click here to check out some of Coral Eye’s snorkeling options (just scroll down past the diving portion of the page to the snorkeling)! Snorkel gear is easy to pack. If you plan on snorkeling, you might like to bring your own mask and fins, to ensure your comfort in the water, but snorkeling equipment is also available to rent from Coral Eye!
